Arts in Health Ocala Metro has announced the opening of “Creative Voices: Celebrating AIHOM & The Arc of Marion Artists,” at the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place. Presented by the city of Ocala Cultural Arts Division through the Art in City Spaces Program, the exhibit will be on view from June 17 through Dec. 17.

The exhibit will feature artwork created by adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who participate in visual art workshops facilitated by AIHOM at The Arc of Marion.

Arts in Health Ocala Metro is a nonprofit that offers music, dance, performing and visual arts opportunities led by local artists. The Arc of Marion has been providing support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1959.

“For more than three years, AIHOM and The Arc of Marion have partnered to provide ongoing workshops in visual art, music and movement—offering participants consistent opportunities for creative expression, connection and personal growth within an inclusive environment,” the news release noted.

“Presented in a community setting, the artwork reflects the individuality, imagination and lived experiences of the artists while challenging traditional ideas of who is recognized as an artist. By elevating these voices, the exhibition celebrates creative diversity, promotes inclusion and affirms the arts as a vital tool for communication, confidence-building and well-being,” according to AIHOM officials.

The city of Ocala’s Art in City Spaces program offers rotating exhibitions every four to six months in five indoor city galleries, all of which are free and open to the public.

The public is invited to attend an opening reception for “Creative Voices: Celebrating AIHOM & The Arc of Marion Artists” from 11 a.m. to noon on June 17. The community center is located at 1821 NW 21st Ave., Ocala.
