Police release ID of man who died of gunshot wound on July 1

The man who died as a result of a shooting incident on July 1 in Northwest Ocala has been identified by the Ocala Police Department (OPD) as Roovens Pierre, 30.
According to an OPD Facebook post on Saturday, a citizen placed a 911 call around 5:35 p.m. to report hearing “multiple gunshots” in the vicinity of Northwest 16th Street and Northwest 19th Court. Responding officers found no people at the scene but did find shell casings.
Shortly after the gunshot report, a vehicle dropped Pierre off with a gunshot wound at Ocala Fire Rescue Station No.1 at 505 N.W. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., the post indicated. Pierre was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
“There is no new information at this time. Detectives are still actively investigating the case,” stated OPD Public Information Officer Jeffrey Walczak via email on July 3.
