Residency clinic opens
AdventHealth Ocala on Aug. 14 cut the ribbon on its new Family Medicine Residency Practice clinic at 221 SW 11th St., Ocala.
The clinic, which features 20 exams rooms, two procedure rooms, a lab, a classroom and 15 offices, will serve as a training ground for the hospital’s inaugural class of graduate medical residents who will work alongside experienced physicians. Graduate medical education is the final phase of medical training that equips physicians to become independent physicians in their specialty, the news release noted.
The hospital’s Clinic First residency curriculum emphasizes family medicine outpatient practice as the primary site for clinical training. Residents will work closely with attending physicians across all specialties and immerse themselves in AdventHealth’s whole-person care model.

Hospital joins global clinical trial
HCA Florida Ocala Hospital will participate in a clinical trial to assess the safety and effectiveness of a next-generation heart valve implant. The study launched on Aug. 12 as the first procedure was performed at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. Its outcomes could help redefine treatment standards for aortic stenosis, according to the news release.
The clinical trial, sponsored by Abbott, will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Navitor Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation system in patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at low or intermediate surgical risk. If successful, the trial could lead to expanded approval by the U.S Food and Drug Administration for use of the valve in lower-risk patients, the release noted.
