Pied-billed grebe
These small diving birds are named for their blunt bill, which is two-toned in summer. They’re excellent divers and swimmers but awkward on land or in the air. They’re typically seen singly or in pairs. When approached closely, they’ll hide by crash-diving. This one was photographed in the duckweed at the Ocala Wetland Recharge Park.
