Little blue heron
The Little Blue Heron is one of our most common wading birds, and up close you’ll see shades of slate blue and a maroon or purple head. Juveniles are white and they’re sometimes confused with snowy egrets. This one was patiently fishing for lunch among cardinal flowers along the banks of the Silver River.
