Bicyclist dies in traffic crash on SR 200 in Ocala

A 68-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed on southwest State Road 200 the evening of Feb. 26, according to the Ocala Police Department.

The fatality occurred in the 2000 block of Southwest SR 200 around 10:20 p.m.

The press release stated that a “Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the inside lane near the RaceTrac gas station. The bicyclist was on the south side of SR 200 and trying to cross northbound after the RaceTrac driveway. As he entered the eastbound lanes, the front of the Chevy struck him.”

The victim was transported to HCA Florida Hospital, where he passed away, the press release stated. 

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification next of kin and the crash remains under investigation, according to the press release. 

Preliminary information at the FHP Crash Dashboard at flhsmv.gov indicates there have been eight traffic fatalities from Jan.1 to Feb. 19 in Marion County.
