Leah Bender of West Port High School has been named Marion County Teacher of the Year for the 2021-22 school year.

Bender, an English Literature and Composition teacher at West Port High School, expressed her gratitude for winning the award.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the recognition, but I think winning teacher of the year for Marion County is more about me representing the hard work of my students,” Bender said. “I also want to recognize my students’ past teachers who are doing the real and difficult day to day work.

I’m just a placeholder for their success.”

Bender has been a teacher in Marion County for eight years, all at West Port High School. She currently teaches AP English Literature and Composition, AP Capstone Seminar, and AP Capstone Research.
