While many people start off Thanksgiving Day by toiling in the kitchen or settling down in front of the television to watch the Macy’s parade, lots of folks lace up their sneakers and go for a run.

The 29th annual Turkey Trot at the Frank DeLuca YMCA in Ocala drew a whopping 1,889 participants. In addition to 5K and 10K runs, the event also included a pickleball tournament, youth dodgeball and a cycle class.

There was something for participants of all ages and inclinations, and several athletes sported turkey hats and costumes. Even under gray skies, it ended up being a great day for getting some exercise and sharing camaraderie with fellow Ocalans.
