Pedestrian dies after being struck by pickup truck

A 73-year-old Ocala man was struck and killed while walking in a lane of northwest State Road 40 the evening of March 4, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.
According to the FHP press release, a pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old Ocala man was traveling east in the inside lane of SR 40 near Northwest 41st Avenue as the victim was walking in an unknown direction within the inside eastbound lane of SR-40 ahead of the pickup truck. The pickup driver did not observe the pedestrian in the roadway, causing the front end of the pickup truck to collide with the pedestrian.
The collision occurred around 11:45 p.m. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue, the FHP reported.
The pickup driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, the press release stated.
