A shooting occurred around 11 a.m. today near the 1700 block of Southwest 1st Street in Ocala, in the front yard of a residence.

According to the Ocala Police Department, the 29-year-old male victim sustained a nonlife-threatening injury due to a domestic dispute.

Authorities said the incident is not related to shootings nearby on New Year’s Day, which resulted in two dead and four injured.

The Gazette was setting up to cover the MLK wreath-laying ceremony nearby when at least eight pops of gun fire were heard. Local law enforcement was already in the vicinity and responded immediately.

OPD Chief Michael Balken told the Gazette the department is currently searching for two adult suspects related to the victim.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call OPD at (352) 369-7000 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously by dialing **TIPS. If a tip leads to an arrest, the caller may be eligible for a cash reward.
