Forest sophomore guard Xzavion McCoy scored 14 points and tallied three steals, and senior guard Calvin Davison knocked down three 3’s as the Wildcats held off the City of Life Warriors 54-40.

The Wildcats were able to negate the front court size of the Warriors, who had three players that stood 6’ 5” or taller, to secure an important victory for the program.

The Wildcats trailed 15-13 to end the first quarter but held the Warriors scoreless for nearly five minutes of the second quarter.

Forest used an 8-0 run to go ahead 21-15 with 3:43 left in the first half.

The Wildcats held onto the lead going into the half 26-21, but City of Life went on a 7-0 run of their own to take the lead 28-26.

Forest reclaimed the lead with an 11-2 run of their own, taking a 37-30 lead that the Wildcats would not relinquish.

Forest head coach Mike Hoffmann was extremely proud of the effort from his squad.

“We’ve been talking about playing well all season, our goal every game is to play well,” Hoffmann said. “Tonight, we played well in all aspects and finally executed things that we needed to improve on all year.”

City of Life was led by junior guard Jeffrey Alvarado, who scored 16 points in the losing effort. Junior guard Angel Chamblin chipped in 8 points for the Warriors.

With the win, Forest moves to 5-2 on the season. The Wildcats will take on Palatka in the Tim Brinkley Tournament at North Marion High School on Saturday the 11th. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
