Three local girls’ volleyball teams competed in three separate prep regional championship matches on Nov. 6, with two successfully qualifying for next weekend’s state semifinals.

Read below to see which schools won regional titles on their way to two respective State Final Four berths and which school’s season ended prematurely in its regional final on Saturday.

Trinity Catholic Celtics

Region 3A-1 Final

Visiting No. 2 seed Trinity Catholic defeated its host No. 1 seed Pensacola Catholic on Nov. 6 to claim the 3A-1 region title for the second year in a row.

The defending 2020 3A state champion Celtics won the championship match over the Crusaders 3-1. The sets breakdown as 25-16, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-20.

Next Up

Seeded No. 3 out of four in the Class 3A State Final Four bracket, Trinity Catholic will next travel to Clearwater to face the No. 2 seed Calvary Christian Warriors at 2 p.m. on Nov. 13.

The other Class 3A semifinal is between No. 1 seed Westminster Christian and No. 4 seed Benjamin, also scheduled for Nov. 13.

If They Win on Nov. 13

The Class 3A state championship match will take place at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers at 3 p.m. on Nov. 18.

Trinity Catholic will have a shot at defending last year’s title and becoming repeat champion in 2021.

Vanguard Knights

Region 5A-2 Final

Visiting No. 2 seed Vanguard defeated its host No. 1 seed Wesley Chapel on Nov. 6 to claim the 5A-2 region title.

The Knights won the championship match over the Wildcats 3-1. The sets breakdown as 25-27, 25-17, 25-23 and 25-20.

This is the second year in a row that Vanguard has qualified for the Class 5A State Final Four.

Next Up

Seeded No. 4 out of four in the Class 5A State Final Four bracket, Vanguard will next travel to Lynn Haven to face the No. 1 seed Mosley Dolphins at 1 p.m. on Nov. 13.

The other Class 5A semifinal is between No. 2 seed Merritt Island and No. 3 seed Barron Collier, scheduled for Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

If They Win on Nov. 13

The Class 5A state championship match will take place at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers at 1 p.m. on Nov. 17.

St. John Lutheran Saints

Region 2A-3 Final

The visiting No. 2 seed St. John Lutheran lost to its host No. 1 seed Orangewood Christian on Nov. 6, ending its 2021 season on the road as the Class 2A-3 region runners-up.

The Saints dropped the championship match to the Rams in 3-2 (17-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15, 15-7).
