Game of the Week: Leon at Forest
Forest’s quarterback Steve Curry (5) outruns Dunnellon defenders during a football game at Dunnellon High School in Dunnellon, Fla, on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021. [Bruce Ackerman/Ocala Gazette] 2021.
Forest won last week at home against the visiting Leesburg Yellow Jackets 29-6, but that was its first win since defeating West Port, also at home, 15-12 on Sept. 17.
So far, the Wildcats have lost to North Marion (36-8) on Aug. 27; Seabreeze (40-8) on Sept. 3; Dunnellon (20-0) on Sept. 24; and Chiles (45-14) on Oct. 1.
Leon enters tonight’s game with a 1-4 overall record.
The Lions’ lone win came against Florida A & M out of Tallahassee on Sept. 3. They won 53-26.
Since that game, Leon has been on a four-game losing streak, dropping games to Florida State University High School (53-3), Navarre (24-14), Buchholz (49-3) and Lincoln (42-0) last week.
Tonight’s game would be a great opportunity for the Wildcats to string together two wins, before facing Hawthorne on Oct. 22—another non-district match-up.
The Hornets could be a challenge for Forest as they currently sit with a 5-0 record, but that’s next week.
This week, the Wildcats are hoping to extend their winning streak to two games, shoring up their record at 3-4, one game short of .500.
With district games against Buchholz and Vanguard coming up on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, respectively, Forest football couldn’t choose a better time to go on a tear through its remaining schedule then right now.
Friday’s game is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m.
