The Arts in Health Ocala Metro (AIHOM) Healing Arts Gallery is presenting a photography exhibition featuring the work of Keith Sackin, whose practice explores disability, embodiment, memory and human connection.

A native of Ocala, Sackin attended Emory University before a spinal cord injury in 2001 reshaped his path, according to AIHOM.

“Photography emerged as a way for him to reenter the world, an avenue for re-examining perception, memory and the evolving relationship between body and environment. Introduced to the medium through friendships with artists, Sackin eventually transferred to the Georgia State University School of Art and Design, where photography became central to both his creative and personal life,” the news release noted.

Sackin’s work consistently returns to questions of disability and embodied experience. His photographs range from disabled athletes in motion, to the adaptive equipment that enables that movement, to intimate portraits of disabled couples. Featured images from his work with Atlanta based Full Radius Dance, an integrated dance company, observe bodies in collaboration, inviting viewers to reconsider where grace, strength and expressive power reside, the release stated.

“Through an investigational practice rooted in lived experience, Sackin examines the tension between perceived ability and what is achievable, while probing the roles of memory, dreams and personal history in shaping identity. His work challenges cultural assumptions of limitation and worth, offering a deeply reflective human perspective,” according to AIHOM.

The exhibition will open on June 6 with a public reception from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will remain on view through Dec. 31. The Arts in Health Ocala Metro Gallery is located at 2880 NE 8th Road, Ocala.
