Special Olympics coaches sought
Certification classes coming up for basketball and equestrian sports.

Special Olympics Florida is looking for volunteer coaches to lead athletes at weekly practices and in competitions in the Northeast Region.
“Special Olympics Florida coaches model good sportsmanship and character to enrich the overall sports experience for athletes. They are role models who give our 70,000 participants courage and the capacity to learn, grow and improve. Lessons learned on the playing field — teamwork, self-discipline and confidence — transcend into the athletes’ everyday lives,” the news release noted.
No sports expertise is needed, and the organization will provide all necessary training. Two certification classes are upcoming:
- Basketball coach certification class: 1:30-5 p.m., Jan. 11, Forest High School, 5000 SE Maricamp Road, Ocala
- Equestrian coach certification class: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., Jan. 18, Stirrups ‘n Strides Therapeutic Riding Center, 4246 W. Highway 318, between Citra and Orange Lake
