FHP: Ocala man dies after SUV stuck on tracks, hit by train
A 72-year-old Ocala man died Monday night after his SUV became stuck on railroad tracks in northeast Marion County and was hit by a train, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.An FHP press release indicated the crash occurred around 7:45 p.m.
The FHP press release stated the victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was traveling west on State Road 326 as the train traveled south approaching the intersection with the state road.
The SUV turned north “for unknown reasons” and became stuck on the railroad tracks in the vicinity of Northeast 36th Avenue, the FHP indicated.
The SUV was hit in the front left section by the southbound train, according to the press release.
The victim was pronounced deceased upon arrival at a hospital, according to the press release.
The train’s engineer and a male passenger were not injured, the press release stated.
