Early morning pedestrian fatality in Ocala

A 65- year -old pedestrian was struck by an SUV and killed early Thursday morning while in the roadway on southwest College Road (State Road 200) near the Paddock Mall  in Ocala, according to the Ocala Police Department.

The traffic fatality occurred around 5:39 a.m in the 3100 block of Southwest College Road (SR 200)  according to OPD Public Information Officer Jeffrey Walczak.

OPD and Ocala Fire rescue responded and found the victim in the eastbound lanes. The SUV driver was hospitalized but was not injured, Walczak indicated.

A Facebook post following the crash.indicated the eastbound lanes of SW College Road (SR 200)  in the vicinity of the traffic fatality were closed at the time of the crash and were opened before 11 a.m., according  to Walczak.

The victim has not yet been identified and Walczak stated OPD is working on notification of the victim’s family and the investigation is ongoing.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol Crash Dashboard there were 10 pedestrian fatalities in Marion County from Jan.1 to July 31, 2025 based  upon preliminary data.
