Lady Crusaders cruise past Temple Christian 34-9
Ocala Christian Academy’s Cori Williams (10) and Emalie Young (11) battle for a loose ball with Temple Christian Academy’s R. Beckham (12) during a basketball game at Ocala Christian Academy in Ocala, Fla. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021. [Bruce Ackerman/Ocala Gazette] 2021.
The trio of junior Alexa Botticello, sophomore Charlotte Culver, and freshman Brianna McQuaig each scored 8 points for the Lady Crusaders.
The young and inexperienced TCA squad had trouble putting points on the board, due in large part to the sound defense played by OCA.
First year TCA head coach Yasha Main, a former Belleview High School basketball player, was pleased to see her team play its first game of the season.
“We are young, and only three of our players have ever played in a game before,” Main said. “We have a group of kids that we can coach up and watch grow.”
Lady Crusaders head coach Lauren Castillo looks forward to building off the win.
“We need to learn to run the offense,” Castillo said. “It was our third game. We will get better at running the plays we practice.”
Castillo praised the growth of Culver, who scored 24 points on the road against Countryside Christian the previous game.
Culver also grabbed three rebounds and notched two steals for the Lady Crusaders, who improved to 1-2 on the season.
Ocala Christian will play next Monday at Redeemer Christian School. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
