Exhibit Grand Opening Kings Queens & Castles

Beginning Saturday, Apr 6 Discovery Center will host Kings, Queens & Castles, a children’s chess exhibit co-created by The World Chess Hall of Fame and The Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum. This innovative, nationally traveling exhibit brings the game of chess to life and provides an engaging introduction to individual chess pieces and game strategy. Kings, Queens & Castles will be on display Saturday April 6 through Saturday, June 22 at the Discovery Center, 701 NE Sanchez Ave.
Designed for children ages 3-11, Kings Queens & Castles features an array of interactive elements. Visitors can walk across a drawbridge into a medieval castle complete with turret slides and a giant chess board floor with life-size chess pieces. After your human chess game, you can make a crown, build your own castle walls. This family friendly exhibit provides a fun introduction to chess and life in the medieval age.
A special grand opening event will be held Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature face painting, refreshments, planetarium shows at 11:00am and 1:00pm, face painting, a live chess board demo at 11:30am, special guest Dr. Ietef DJ Cavem Vita at 12:00pm, and live “dragon” encounters at 12:30pm and 1:30pm.
The exhibit is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission to the Discovery Center is $6.50 per person or $22 for a family of four. StarLab Planetarium tickets can be purchased on Saturdays for an additional $3.
