Dunnellon faced no significant damages, major road closures from Hurricane Helene

Dunnellon Mayor Walter Green praised the city’s first responders and Public Works Department for their top-notch work in handling Hurricane Helene-related matters and avoiding any downtown road closures.

“The (Dunnellon) business district is up and running,” he said Friday.

Green indicated the main north-south downtown thoroughfare, U. S. Highway 41, had no closures and businesses were operating early Friday.

Green’s home was within a power outage area and he commented on a “lack of internet” to respond to emails.

Dunnellon Police Department Capt. Ron Bray said there were “no injuries” or significant damages reported in Dunnellon.

Bray said perhaps seven downed trees obstructing roadways had “been cleared by 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, Lori Starr with the  Thirsty Turtle Pub In Rainbow Lakes Estates, said she lost electric power Thursday around 10 p.m. and at least one patron said they had no damage.
