Marion County is currently under a hurricane watch as Tropical Storm Idalia is forecast to become a hurricane this afternoon and impact Florida on Tuesday afternoon and night.
According to the National Weather Service’s 5:17 a.m. update, the storm will “track northward into the southeast Gulf of Mexico on Monday night. Idalia is forecast to strengthen to hurricane intensity on Monday afternoon, and rapid strengthening is expected as Idalia accelerates north-northeastward towards the Florida Big Bend or Nature Coast on Tuesday afternoon and night.
“Idalia is expected to make landfall at Category 3 hurricane strength early on Wednesday morning, and the hurricane should then turn northeastward as it accelerates across our area on Wednesday.”
